It is possible today to create a digital print at home with higher image quality than what we used to be able to get from many of the professional labs. Today's inkjet printers, inks and papers allow the creation of archival prints at home that will last 50 to 200 years under proper archival display conditions. But, like most things photographic, there are tricks, techniques and challenges in digital printing. Join us for a detailed look at this evolving technology that is changing photographic art.
This workshop is primarily intended for photographers who shoot with a digital camera and wish to create the best possible prints from their images. We will cover the entire workflow, from preparing images to actual printing on inkjet printers. The course will cover papers, inks, continuous inking systems, profiles and printers in detail. We will also discuss methods of preparing your files for printing by professional labs and show the differences in various commercial processes.
Adobe Photoshop techniques will be used throughout class. Although Photoshop knowledge is not a pre-requisite, some Photoshop experience usually results in getting more out of the class.
At this time, digital printing is instructor-led using a single computer. Individual workstations will not be available until our digital lab construction is finished. However, students are asked to bring their digital files to class on a CD or a USB flash drive as the class will use student work for all examples in class. Class Limit: 12 people
